Taiwan market: Asustek aims to remain top LCD monitor vendor in 2009

Asustek Computer aims to remain the top LCD monitor vendor in Taiwan in 2009 and account for 22-25% of the local market, according to market sources. For the worldwide market, Asustek aims to ship 3-4 million LCD monitors this year, the sources added.
Asustek surpassed ViewSonic to become number one in the Taiwan monitor market for the first time in the fourth quarter of 2008, the sources noted. Asustek, ViewSonic and BenQ were the top-three monitor vendors in Taiwan in 2008, the sources said, adding that total LCD monitor shipments in the Taiwan market are expected to shrink by 8-10% to one million units in 2009.
BenQ is also eyeing the top spot with 22-24% of Taiwan's monitor market this year, the sources said.
In the global LCD monitor market, Asustek was number 10 in 2008 with shipments of 3.3 million units, and it aims to become number nine this year, according to the company. Asustek's LCD monitor shipments in the first quarter increased by 20-30%, it added.
