Compal Electronics may see its notebook shipments reach 6.3-6.6 million units in the first quarter of 2009, higher than the company's forecast of 6.2 million units, along with a chance of scoring higher on-quarter shipments growth than the forecast 15% for the second quarter, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report citing component makers.
The China government's consumer electronics promotion program for rural areas is providing the largest boost to shipments since two of the qualified PC vendors, Acer and Lenovo, both outsource netbooks to Compal, added the paper.
