China Unicom (NYSE:CHU, 762.HK, 600050.SH) will suspend provincial-level recharging services on April 1 and rely solely on its universal recharge card, reports Sohu quoting a March 1 Unicom announcement. Unicom will exchange provincial cards bought before the switch for universal cards after April 1, said the report.
Unicom said it sold 11 million universal recharge cards in January, and 7 million of the cards were used to recharge accounts that month, reports cctime.com. Universal cards were released in late 2008 in denominations of RMB 20, RMB 30, RMB 50, RMB 100, RMB 300 and RMB 500, said the report.
