The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television has mandated that all China Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting (CMMB) terminals be installed with a certificate authority (CA) system by 2009, reports 163.com. According to the report, 37 of CMMB's 150 covered cities have free channels, including Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, and the CA system will enable free channels to become paid services. China plans to launch a CMMB satellite in 2009, said the report.
An unnamed insider said earlier this month that Shanghai will become the first CMMB trial city to begin commercial operation in March, and the service is expected to offer seven programs for a total of RMB 20 per month.
