China Mobile (NYSE:CHL, 941.HK) plans to release 3G netbooks and integrated laptops in late March or early April through partnerships with eleven PC manufacturers including Dell (Nasdaq:DELL), HP (NYSE:HPQ), Samsung, Acer, Founder Technology (600601.SH), Tsinghua Tongfang (600100.SH) and Great Wall Computer (000066.SZ), reports qq.com quoting an unnamed insider. China Mobile's 3G netbooks will range from RMB 2,000-4,000, while 3G laptops will run from RMB 5,000-10,000, the report said. Home electronics and appliance retailer Suning (002024.SZ) plans to begin selling netbooks and TD-SCDMA-enabled laptops in its Shanghai flagship store in late March, said the report. To promote the products, China Mobile will subsidize prepaid feeds and terminal purchases, as well as offer manufacturers 120% of the price difference between 3G-enabled and standard netbooks and laptops; iits provincial subsidiaries will offer promotional discounts up to the price difference, the report said. China Mobile plans to spend more than RMB 10 billion to subsidize the TD-SCDMA standard in 2009, said the report. |
