
New York-listed WuXi PharmaTech (Cayman) Inc<WX>, China's premier provider of pharmaceutical R&D outsourcing services, plans to halt production of the biotechnology products at its plant in Philadelphia, the Shanghai Daily reported.
The move will result in loss of 100 jobs at the company's U.S. plant, according to the company's statement released on Wednesday.
WuXi PharmaTech, the largest drug research contractor in China, plans to use the plant to test biological medicines, cell banking as well as cell therapy services.
Early this year, the Shanghai-based pharmaceutical company signed a definitive agreement to acquire U.S.-based AppTec Laboratory Services, Inc. (AppTec), China Knowledge reported earlier.
